What we do on roofs
Everything from a slipped tile on a Catford terrace to a full re-roof on a Chislehurst detached. If it is above the gutter line, it is ours.
- New roofs & re-roofs
Strip, check the timbers, new breathable membrane, new battens, new tiles or slates. Ridge and verge dry-fixed.
- Roof repairs
Slipped and cracked tiles, failed flashings, leaking valleys, storm damage. Repaired properly, not bodged with mastic.
- Flat roofs
Extensions, garages, dormers and porches. Laid to fall so the water actually leaves the roof.
- Chimney repairs & rebuilds
Repointing, new flaunching, lead soakers and aprons, or a full rebuild where the stack has gone.
- Lead work
Valleys, flashings, soakers and box gutters. Correct code lead, correct laps. Where cheap roofs leak first.
- Fascias, soffits & guttering
uPVC roofline replaced as a set, so the new gutter is not screwed to rotten timber.
- uPVC roofline
Cladding, bargeboards and dry verge units, colour matched to the windows and doors.
- External rendering
Silicone and monocouche, K Rend and pebble dash, render repairs and weatherproof coatings.
Membrane, battens, tiles. Photographed on the job, not borrowed.
What is under your tiles
Two roofs can look identical from the pavement and be twenty years apart in how long they last. The difference is the build-up underneath, and that is the part a cheap quote quietly leaves out.
Strip and check the timbers
Old covering off, rafters and wall plates checked while they are exposed. Anything rotten gets replaced now, not covered up.
Breathable membrane
Modern breathable underlay plus proper ventilation, so the loft stays dry instead of turning into condensation, damp and rot.
Treated battens, set out
Graded, treated battens gauged to the tile, so every course lines up and every tile is properly supported.
Mechanically fixed, then dry-fixed edges
Tiles nailed or clipped to BS 5534, ridge and verge dry-fixed to BS 8612. No mortar to crack, wash out and let the wind under.
BS 5534 is the British Standard for tiling and slating. Every tile mechanically fixed, not held on by mortar and hope.
BS 8612 covers dry-fix ridge and verge: mechanically fixed, mortar free, and virtually maintenance free.
Specialists in roofing and rendering
A new roof on a tired-looking house only does half the job. Render is the other half, and doing both with one firm means one scaffold, one visit and one price.
Silicone & monocouche
Through-coloured, breathable, self-cleaning finishes that do not need painting every few years.
K Rend & pebble dash
Modern K Rend systems, or traditional pebble dash repaired and matched where the original stays.
Render repairs
Blown, cracked and hollow sections cut out and made good, rather than skimmed over to hide it.
Weatherproof coatings
Breathable coatings that keep driving rain out while letting the wall dry.
Colour matching
New work matched to what is already on the house, so a repair does not read as a patch.
Modern finishes
Smooth, scraped and textured finishes, sample panels done before we commit the whole elevation.

Roofing questions we get asked
What does a new roof cost?
It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, the access and scaffolding, whether the timbers are sound and which tile or slate you want. Anyone who gives you a figure down the phone without seeing it is guessing. We look at it, tell you what it actually needs, and put the price in writing. The visit and the quote are free.
Does my roof need replacing, or just repairing?
Plenty of the roofs we get called to need a repair, not a replacement, and we will tell you that even though it is the smaller job. If the tiles are sound and the trouble is a flashing, a valley or a few slipped tiles, we repair it. If half the battens are rotten and it is leaking in three places, patching it is just paying twice.
How long does a re-roof take?
A typical semi or terrace is usually a few days on the roof once the scaffold is up, weather permitting. Bigger period houses in Chislehurst and Blackheath with valleys, dormers and chimneys take longer. You get the expected dates with the quote, and a phone call if the weather moves them.
Do you sort the scaffolding?
Yes, we arrange it. Scaffolding is priced inside the written quote so you can see exactly what it costs, and there is no separate bill turning up afterwards.
Are you insured?
Yes, Southridge is fully insured. Ask and we will send you the certificate before anyone sets foot on your property.
Which areas do you cover?
Beckenham, Chislehurst, Catford and Blackheath, plus Bromley, Bellingham, Hither Green, Lee, Lewisham, Sydenham, Penge, Mottingham and Petts Wood. If you are just outside that, ring and ask.
Get the roof looked at properly
Send a photo of the problem and we will tell you honestly whether it is a repair or a replacement, then put a price in writing.
