A small repair, start to finish
Most roof trouble starts small. One tile slips when the nail holding it rusts through, a lump of mortar drops out from under a ridge tile, the lead beside a chimney lifts at one corner, and for a while nothing shows inside the house. Then rain gets onto the felt under the gap, the tiles either side begin to work loose, and what was one tile becomes a stained ceiling to put right as well. That is why the small jobs are worth doing early, and why we take them on. Someone goes up, looks at the thing you rang about and at the tiles and lead around it, and photographs what is there. You get a written price for that repair, using tile, slate and lead to match what is already on the roof, so the repair blends in. If scaffold is needed to reach it, we arrange it and it sits inside that price. And if the roof turns out to need more than a small repair, you are told plainly and shown why, and the choice is left with you.
Small roof repair questions
Will you come out for one slipped tile?
Yes. A single gap is enough to let rain onto the felt, and it is a smaller job now than after a wet winter.
Do small repairs need scaffold?
Some do and some do not, depending on where the repair is and how high the roof is. If scaffold is needed to work safely, we arrange it and it is included in the written price.
Can you match my tiles?
That is the aim on every repair. If your tile or slate has gone out of production, you see the nearest match before anything is fixed.
What is dry fixing?
Ridge, hip and verge tiles held down with clips and screws rather than mortar alone, so there is no mortar to crack and wash out. We use it on our own roofs, and it can be an option when a ridge or verge is refixed.
Does it cost anything to have it looked at?
No. The look and the written price cost nothing, and you are free to say no.
