What we repair

How a repair call goes
Most roof repair calls start the same way: a stain on a bedroom ceiling that was not there last week, a tile on the lawn after a windy night, or a drip in the loft that only shows up when the rain is coming from one direction. The temptation is to get someone up a ladder with a tube of mastic, and for a month or two that looks like it worked. It rarely does, because the water was not coming in where the stain is. It tracks along battens and rafters, sometimes a couple of metres, before it finds a way through, so the repair has to start from where the water gets in, not where it lands. That is why we look before we price. Someone goes up, finds the slipped course, the cracked flashing, the valley that has lost its lead or the flaunching that has let go, and comes down with a photograph and a price. If the honest answer is that the roof has had its life, we say so, and we say what a new one would cost, but most of what we are called to is a repair and we treat it as one.
Questions about roof repairs
Is it a repair, or does the roof need replacing?
Most of the roofs we are called to need a repair, not a replacement, and we say so even though it is the smaller job. If the tiles are sound and the trouble is a flashing, a valley or a few slipped tiles, we repair it. If half the battens are rotten and it is leaking in three places, we tell you that too and price both.
Do you charge to come and look?
No. We come and look, find where the water is getting in, and the price comes in writing. The visit and the quote are free.
How quickly can you get to a leak?
Ring us and we will tell you honestly when we can be there. If water is coming in now, say so when you ring so we know it is live.
Can you match the tiles that are already on the roof?
In most cases yes. Where the exact tile or slate is no longer made we find the closest match and show you before we start, so a repair does not read as a patch from the street.
Are you insured?
Yes, Southridge is fully insured. Ask and we will send you the certificate before anyone sets foot on your property.
Which areas do you cover for repairs?
Chislehurst, Bromley, Beckenham, Blackheath, Catford, Lewisham, Sidcup, Bexley and Eltham, plus Petts Wood, Bellingham, Hither Green, Lee, Sydenham, Penge, Mottingham and the streets around them. If you are just outside that, ring and ask.
