A gutter clean, step by step

Most gutters block slowly and then all at once. Leaves land in them every autumn, moss creeps down off the tiles, grit washes off the roof and settles in the bottom of the run, and for a while the rain still finds its way past all of it to the outlet. Then one wet week the outlet chokes, the water backs up along the gutter and pours over the front edge, nearly always somewhere you notice it, over the back door or down across a window. Left that way, the overflow soaks the wall below and the board the gutter hangs from, and given a winter or two it turns up as a damp patch on an inside wall. Clearing the gutter is the job, and we are glad to take it on its own. Because a roofer is the one up there doing it, the brackets, the joints and the boards get a look on the way along. If something needs attention you see a photo of it and hear what it would take, and if nothing does, you hear that too. Either way the price is agreed in writing before anyone goes up.

Gutter cleaning questions

Will you clean the gutters and nothing else?

Yes. The clean is the whole job unless you ask for more. Anything we notice on the way, a split joint or a rotten board, you see in a photo and the choice stays yours.

How often do gutters need cleaning?

For most houses once a year is enough, after the leaves have come down. Under big trees, twice a year is not unusual.

Why is my gutter overflowing?

Most often the outlet is choked, so the water has nowhere to go. If the outlet is clear and the gutter still spills, the run may have dropped and lost its fall, and the brackets can be reset while we are up there.

Are you insured?

Southridge is fully insured, and the certificate is yours to see before anyone goes up.

Do you charge for the price?

No. Pricing the clean costs nothing and you are under no obligation to book it.
